Navi Mumbai– The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a demolition drive in the Airoli division on Tuesday, targeting unauthorised constructions that had failed to comply with prior notices issued by the encroachment department.

The action was undertaken as per the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, under the guidance of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Bhagwat Doiphode. The crackdown focused on illegal structures in Survey numbers. 224, 225, and 395, located in Sector-9, Diva Village, Airoli, which had been built without the necessary approvals from NMMC.

Earlier, the corporation had served notices under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, instructing the owners to remove the unauthorized constructions. However, as the instructions were not followed, the encroachment department took action and partially demolished the illegal structures.

The operation was carried out with the assistance of one gas cutter, two breakers, a JCB machine, and a team of ten laborers. Senior officials, including Assistant Commissioner of G Division Airoli, Ankush Jadhav, and Junior Engineer Sandeep Mhatre, were present during the drive. Additionally, a penalty of Rs 25,000 was collected as part of the enforcement process.

Municipal authorities have warned that such anti-encroachment actions will be intensified in the coming days to curb illegal constructions and maintain urban planning regulations.
