Navi Mumbai: Homebuyers under CIDCO’s My Preferred Home scheme have alleged that the flats allotted through the lottery are smaller than what was promised in the scheme’s booklet. The revelation has sparked outrage, with buyers discovering that the actual carpet area of their allotted Low-Income Group (LIG) flats is significantly less than initially stated.

Former MLA Sandeep Naik has intervened, calling the issue serious and demanding a clarification from CIDCO. He has urged the planning agency to honor its original commitment and not reduce the promised size. The discrepancy has caused growing frustration among allottees, many of whom applied based on the original specifications.

While CIDCO had advertised a 322 sq. ft. carpet area, the allotment letters sent to winners specify a reduced 291.91 sq. ft., leaving many buyers feeling shortchanged.

Recently, CIDCO conducted a computerized lottery for 26,000 houses under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and LIG categories. Successful applicants received their Letters of Intent, with designated locations including Panvel, Kharghar Bus Terminus, Mansarovar Railway Station, Khandeshwar Railway Station, Kharkopar Sector 16A, and Vashi Truck Terminus.

However, after receiving their allotment letters, homebuyers were shocked to find that the actual RERA carpet area listed was only 291.91 square feet—falling nearly 30 square feet short of the promised size.

Expressing concerns over the issue, Naik has called for immediate action, stating that any post-allotment reduction in flat size is unfair to buyers. CIDCO has yet to respond to the growing backlash from homebuyers and political representatives.
