At least two vehicles were damaged after a fire broke out in a parking area adjacent to CIDCO Bhawan in Belapur on Friday afternoon. Firefighters from the Belapur Fire Station swiftly brought the blaze under control. However, the incident raises concerns about the safety of parking spaces in the city.

The fire started in dry grass, which quickly spread and partially damaged two cars. The timely intervention of the fire brigade prevented it from spreading to other vehicles. According to an official from the Belapur Fire Station, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, though a discarded cigarette butt may have been responsible.

The parking lot is located beneath high-tension power lines and adjoins the Sion-Panvel Highway. Local activists have opposed the facility, citing safety risks. Sudhir Dani, founder of the Alert Citizen Forum, stated, “The parking facility is situated under Tata Power’s high-voltage transmission lines, violating Maharashtra State Electricity Regulatory Commission rules, which prohibit human activity beneath such lines.”
