The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) issued new guidelines for citizens to follow this summer season, as the temperature increases every day. The NMMC asked people to take necessary precautions against heatstroke. It also described a heatwave as a silent disaster. The civic body also stressed over the serious health risks people can face due to the change in temperatures between March and May. NMMC warned that infants, young kids, outdoor workers, pregnant women, and people who are suffering from heart issues face a higher risk of heat-related illnesses.

The civic body stated that a heatwave is classified when temperatures exceed 3 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days, or when it crosses 45 degrees Celsius for two days in a row.

NMMC shared some preventive measures with the people on it’s X post.

Drinking lots of water and choosing homemade cooling beverages like buttermilk, lemon water, and fresh fruit juices are two ways residents are encouraged to stay hydrated. Additionally, the recommendation advises utilising umbrellas, scarves, or caps when going outside and dressing in loose, light-colored clothing.

People should stay out of direct sunlight from 12 to 3 PM, avoid physically demanding activities, and never leave kids or dogs in parked cars in order to reduce their exposure to heat.

NMMC urged all the families to take care of elderly or sick people who live alone in their localities to prevent any kind of medical emergencies.
