The voting for the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation was held on January 15, and the counting of votes is underway. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has got 32 seats, the Shiv Sena has got 28 seats, and Shiv Sena UBT got 1, out of 111 seats (till 12 pm, January 16). The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Indian National Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar), and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) have not yet won any seats out of the 111 seats in the Navi Mumbai region. The Shiv Sena UBT and MNS fought in alliance, and other parties fought independently in the Navi Mumbai Municipal elections.
The voter turnout was 57% this year, slightly lower than the voter turnout of 2017, which was 58.8%.
For the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, the civic body is divided into 28 electoral wards. Of these, 27 wards elect four corporators each, while one ward elects three corporators. Altogether, this structure accounts for a total of 111 seats in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. In 2017, the Nationalist Congress Party (Which was united back then) had won the Navi Mumbai Municipal Elections. This year, the BJP and Shiv Sena are leading the race with 27 seats each. The clear results will be out by 1 pm today.
The total population of the area stands at 1,136,170. Of this, the Scheduled Caste population is 100,839, while the Scheduled Tribe population is 19,646.
