Navi Mumbai: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has sought a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the suicide of a Class 9 student who allegedly jumped from a school building in the Seawoods area last month. The report has been sought from the district administration

The student died by suicide on February 7 after jumping from the fifth floor of the school building. Following the incident, the police initially registered a case of accidental death. However, the victim’s father has alleged that his son was subjected to bullying at the school, which ultimately led to his tragic death.

In a letter to the concerned authorities, the NCPCR stated that it had received a complaint from the student’s father, who claimed he was not being shown the school's CCTV footage. The complaint further alleged that other students had also spoken to their parents about bullying at the institution. Despite attempts to file an FIR and initiate a proper investigation, the father alleged that police and school authorities remained unresponsive and uncooperative.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, the Commission has directed the authorities to ensure an FIR is registered and has sought a copy of the FIR, the post-mortem report, an investigation report, and other relevant documents within 10 days of receiving the letter.
