Navi Mumbai: In a bold move to recover pending property tax, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) conducted a drum-beating awareness drive at Haware Commercial Complex in Rainbow Business Park. The campaign targeted 232 establishments that had defaulted on property tax payments, with outstanding dues totaling Rs 1.25 crore. A public list displaying the names of defaulters and their unpaid amounts was also put up at the complex.

The action was carried out under the directives of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde and supervised by Administrative Officer Sanjay Tadvi. Despite repeated notices, many property owners failed to clear their dues, prompting NMMC to intensify its recovery efforts. Defaulters have been warned to clear their dues by March 31, 2025, failing which their properties will be sealed.

Previous Actions and Tax Recoveries

Earlier, NMMC took similar action at Export Bhavan in Vashi’s APMC Market, sealing 10 establishments over Rs 56 lakh in unpaid taxes. The properties were de-sealed after defaulters cleared their dues within two days.

Additionally, Rs 2.5 crore was recovered in Turbhe’s Bhoomiraj Society through the drum-beating campaign, while in Nerul’s Ameya Society, defaulters cleared Rs 3.5 crore, leading to the de-sealing of their properties.

Abhay Scheme Offers Relief

NMMC has introduced the ‘Abhay’ scheme to encourage timely payments, offering a 50% waiver on penalties for overdue property tax. Dr. Kailas Shinde has urged all defaulters to take advantage of this scheme and pay their 2024-25 property tax dues before March 31, 2025 to avoid legal action.

NMMC’s aggressive tax recovery drive aims to improve compliance and strengthen the city’s financial stability.
