Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced that it will auction seized properties of tax defaulters to recover outstanding dues. The corporation has already initiated the process of appointing government-registered valuers to assess these properties before the auction.

According to Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, property owners whose assets have been seized have been given a final opportunity to clear their dues immediately. If they fail to do so, their properties will be auctioned without further notice.

Strict Action Against Defaulters

The Property Tax Department of NMMC is responsible for assessing and collecting property taxes. Under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, properties with unpaid taxes can be seized, and in severe cases, auctioned to recover the dues. NMMC is now expediting this process to ensure strict enforcement.

To determine the correct valuation of seized properties, NMMC had invited applications from government-registered valuers, receiving responses from 10 qualified professionals. A suitable valuer will be appointed soon, and once the assessment is completed, the auction process will proceed swiftly.

Relief Under 'Abhay' Scheme

To encourage taxpayers to clear their dues, NMMC has introduced the ‘Abhay’ scheme, which offers a 50% waiver on penalties for those who pay their entire outstanding amount by March 31, 2025. The civic body has urged defaulters to take advantage of this scheme to avoid property seizures and auctions.

NMMC’s Final Warning to Defaulters

With the auction process now in motion, NMMC has warned property owners to settle their outstanding dues at the earliest. The corporation remains firm on enforcing tax regulations and ensuring the recovery of all pending amounts.
