Mumbai: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) hospitals may soon have a dedicated hormonal study and IVF-based healthcare facility. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde directed officials to explore this possibility during his inspection of health facilities at Maasaheb Minatai Thackeray Hospital in Nerul, Sector 15, on Tuesday.

Dr. Shinde highlighted the rising cases of infertility due to hormonal changes and stressed the need for municipal healthcare services to address this issue. He also called for the swift implementation of an AYUSH outpatient department (OPD) to expand alternative healthcare options.

As part of his efforts to enhance public healthcare services, Dr. Shinde closely reviewed hospital operations and recommended key improvements for better patient care. Observing long queues at the case paper registration counter, he instructed hospital administration to increase seating capacity and implement an efficient token system to streamline the process.

He also emphasized the need for public restrooms within the hospital premises and directed authorities to install large information boards to educate citizens about available medical services and essential health precautions.

A major focus of the inspection was the cancer screening unit, where Dr. Shinde urged widespread awareness campaigns to ensure that more people, especially women, benefit from early detection services. He instructed that hospital signage should primarily be in Marathi and recommended using digital displays, audio-visual aids, banners, and pamphlets for better outreach.

During his visit to the casualty ward, Dr. Shinde suggested installing a portable sonography machine and expediting the completion of the modular operation theatre. Additionally, he directed that chemotherapy-related training for doctors and nurses be conducted in collaboration with the Tata Center to ensure high-quality cancer care.

With a strong focus on improving municipal healthcare infrastructure, Dr. Shinde reaffirmed NMMC’s commitment to providing comprehensive and high-quality medical services to Navi Mumbai’s residents.
