A man was detained following a shooting incident at a construction site in Airoli on Thursday evening. The incident, which took place near Shiv Colony in Sector 1, is suspected to be linked to an extortion attempt. No injuries were reported, and police have launched an investigation.

The suspected target was Sudhir Haribhai Sharma, a local builder overseeing the construction of a building on a resident-owned plot. However, Sharma was not at the site when the shooting occurred; he was at his office in another part of Airoli.

“After the incident was reported, Sharma identified a suspect he believed was responsible. We have detained the individual, who is known to Sharma,” said a senior Navi Mumbai police official.

Police confirmed that a bullet struck a wall at the site, leaving a visible mark. A case has been registered with Rabale Police, and further investigations are underway.
