Navi Mumbai:  A tragic accident reported in Koparkhairane sector 2 were a slab in a building collapsed on  around 11 students attending a private tuition. This incident occurred on Thursday, March 5, 2026 evening. Following the incident team reached at the spot and rescued the student, but unfortunately one student died. 

The accident took place in the Vidya Bhavan building in Koparkhairane Sector 2. Although the building was dilapidated, it was still in residential use. Private tuition was also being conducted in the house on the ground floor of the same building. About 11 students of classes 4 and 5 were present in this tuition on Thursday evening. At the same time, the slab of the first floor of the three-storey building collapsed. Due to the sound of the slab falling, the citizens of the area rushed to the spot and informed the police and the fire brigade about the incident.

As soon as the information about the accident was received, the Koparkhairane and Vashi fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. However, the way to the house was blocked, which was hampering the rescue of the trapped people. Finally, the children were rescued by breaking the window and entering the rubble. Many people were seriously injured in the accident and were admitted to the Vashi Municipal Hospital and a nearby private hospital.

14-Year-old Died

Fourteen-year-old Manish Mhase died after a slab collapsed in the 28-year-old Vidya Bhavan building. Despite a prior collapse, the building remained in use, a fact lamented by social activist Deepak Badak following Thursday's accident. While the accident was serious, all other children survived. Corporator Shivram Patil reported that three are being treated at Lions Club Hospital, five at Apex Hospital, and one at the Municipal Hospital. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde stated that a structural audit of the building will be conducted and alternative arrangements have been made for the residents.
