Navi Mumbai – As summer sets in, Kharghar residents are grappling with a severe water shortage. Many housing societies are forced to spend lakhs of rupees each month on water tankers, adding to their distress during the sweltering months.

Residents claim that water scarcity is a year-round issue. Social worker Mangal Kamble pointed out the uneven distribution, stating that while developers receive water for construction, residents struggle to meet their daily needs.

A delegation of residents recently met Joint MD Ganesh Deshmukh, who assured them that several ongoing projects would be completed by July, improving the daily water supply in the area.

CIDCO has undertaken key initiatives under the Hetawane Water Supply Scheme to address the crisis. A break pressure tank near Dighati village, intended as an alternative arrangement, is expected to be completed by March. Additionally, the existing 1,500 mm cement concrete water pipeline along the Bhogeshwari River between Ganpatiwadi and Tarankhop is being replaced with a 1,800 mm MS pipeline, slated for completion by July.

Once these projects are finished, Kharghar will receive an additional 10 to 15 million liters of water per day.
