Kharghar residents are grappling with a worsening water crisis, with many areas suffering from low water pressure and erratic supply. In response, former BJP Corporator Netra Kiran Patil and residents from various sectors met with CIDCO’s Joint Managing Director, Ganesh Deshmukh, to demand urgent intervention.

Widespread Water Shortages Across Multiple Sectors

Water shortages have severely impacted Sectors 11, 13, 19, 20, and 21, as well as the Kharghar and Murbi villages, where many households have gone without supply for two to three consecutive days. Since early March, the situation has deteriorated further, with some areas receiving only minimal water pressure or none at all. As summer intensifies, residents are increasingly reliant on costly private water tankers, adding to their financial burden.

CIDCO’s Inaction Despite Repeated Complaints

Despite multiple written complaints from housing societies, CIDCO’s Water Supply Department has yet to implement a concrete solution. Residents in Sectors 19 and 21 report facing low-pressure water supply throughout the year, with no corrective measures taken. They also raised concerns about CIDCO’s rapid real estate expansion, questioning, “New buildings are coming up, but where is the water for existing residents?”

CIDCO’s Response and Planned Solutions

During the meeting, CIDCO Joint MD Ganesh Deshmukh acknowledged the crisis and assured residents that the situation would improve once a key phase of the Balganga Dam project is completed. Additionally, CIDCO is fast-tracking work on the Nhava Sheva Phase 3 pipeline, which aims to enhance water distribution in Kharghar and nearby areas.

Residents Warn of Protest if Crisis Persists

Frustrated by the lack of immediate relief, residents urged CIDCO to act swiftly. BJP Kharghar Mandal Vice President Kiran Patil warned that if the issue is not resolved soon, a protest march or public agitation will be organized under the leadership of MLA Prashant Thakur.

With summer yet to peak, residents are demanding both immediate and long-term solutions to prevent the crisis from further escalating. The spotlight is now on CIDCO to deliver on its promises and ensure a stable water supply for Kharghar’s growing population.
