In a concerning development from Navi Mumbai’s CBD Sector 8, a natural lake, once a serene and ecologically rich space, is now facing a serious threat due to the relentless dumping of construction debris. What was once a vital water body is slowly being choked by waste, sparking outrage among environmentalists and local residents.

Over the past few days, large amounts of construction waste have been arriving in the area in unidentified vehicles, often under the cover of darkness. This illegal activity is significantly reducing the lake’s water retention capacity and damaging the surrounding terrain, including native vegetation and wildlife habitats.

The scale and frequency of the dumping have prompted citizens to escalate the issue with authorities. Letters have been sent to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner of Belapur Division, urging immediate intervention. The complaints emphasize how the debris is polluting the water, degrading land quality, and posing a serious risk to biodiversity.

Local activists are demanding that criminal cases be filed against those responsible. There is also a growing push for the Municipal Corporation to not only take strict action but also implement long-term preventive measures to protect this sensitive ecological zone.
