Onion prices have dropped in the Navi Mumbai wholesale market. The onions now range from Rs 9 to Rs 16 per kg. This price drop will benefit many households. The prices are decreasing as there is an increase in the supply of red onions in the wholesale market. This will provide some relief to the middle-class families. Meanwhile, there is no sign of onion price being dipped at the retail market
In the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Market in Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, onions were being sold at a high price ranging between Rs 35 to Rs 40 per kg until last month, reported Hindustan Times. However, since March started, the price dropped to Rs 12 to Rs 26.
The retail market price remains the same. The retailers are selling onions at a price range of Rs 35 to Rs 40 per kg in the Mumbai market, after coming down from Rs 45.

The onion production is 30% higher than last year. The onions are being supplied from Nashik, Ahmednagar, Sangli, Satara, Pune, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The price will remain low at least till April, said a wholesaler to Hindustan Times.
On the other hand, farmers are worried about this huge drop in prices. Every week, the price has been dropping significantly. Farmers say that they can hardly pay their expenses at the current rate. For them to profit from the produce, they must receive at least Rs 20 per kg. But since the prices are dropping very quickly, they won't be able to recoup their expenses very soon.
