Panvel: The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified its crackdown on property tax defaulters in the Taloja Industrial Estate, seizing the property of an industrial unit that failed to pay outstanding dues amounting to Rs 2.20 crore.

As part of this initiative, PMC has issued notices to 50 major defaulters, warning them to clear their dues within seven days. Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale has directed officials to seize and confiscate buildings and finished goods of companies that fail to comply.

A team led by Divisional Ward Officer Amar Patil Navade, along with Recovery Officers Harishchandra Kadu, Sanjay Deshmukh, Dilip Sawale, and other municipal staff, executed the seizure operation. Personnel from the Taloja Police Station also assisted in ensuring a smooth execution.

According to PMC records, approximately 3.5 lakh properties fall under its property tax assessment jurisdiction. Since April, the civic body has collected ₹324 crore in property tax revenue for the current financial year. Deputy Commissioner of Property Tax, Swarup Kharge, has urged all property owners to clear their outstanding dues promptly to avoid legal consequences.

Under Section 128 and Schedule D, Chapter 8, Taxation Rule 47 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, PMC has the legal authority to seize and auction movable and immovable properties of defaulters. PMC’s enforcement squad, led by Tax Superintendents Mahesh Gaikwad and Sunil Bhoir, has been actively conducting attachment operations across Kharghar, Navade, Kalamboli, Kamothe, Panvel, and New Panvel.

Since property tax is a primary revenue source for civic development projects, PMC has reiterated the importance of timely payments. An interest penalty of 2% per month is levied on outstanding amounts, increasing the financial burden on defaulters.

To facilitate easy payments, PMC has introduced an online payment system via the "PMC TAX APP" and the official website www.panvelmc.org. Property owners seeking assistance or clarification can contact the toll-free helpline at 1800-5320-340.
