PMC Intensifies Crackdown on Tax Defaulters, Recovers Rs 2.5 Crore in a Day

Panvel: The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified its crackdown on property tax defaulters, launching a large-scale seizure and confiscation campaign under the directives of Commissioner Mangesh Chitale. The intensified enforcement measures have already resulted in the recovery of Rs 2.5 crore in outstanding property tax from businesses in the Taloja Industrial Estate within a single day.

Deputy Commissioner Swarup Kharge is leading the efforts to recover outstanding dues from defaulters across industrial estates and commercial properties.

As part of the initiative, PMC has taken action against Technopet Machinery and Meridian Company in New Panvel's industrial area, as well as Suvitha Cold Storage in Kamothe. Several other factories and hotels in industrial zones with unpaid property taxes are also facing confiscation proceedings.

How Was the Response from Taloja Industrial Estate?

Due to intensified enforcement measures, Rs 2.5 crore in outstanding property tax was collected in a single day from businesses in the Taloja Industrial Estate. So far, PMC has issued 447 pre-seizure notices and 27 warrant notices, creating pressure on tax defaulters to clear their dues.

Wtrict Measures and Increased Manpower for Recovery

To further accelerate tax collection, PMC is increasing manpower under the leadership of Tax Superintendents Mahesh Gaikwad and Sunil Bhoir. Additional recovery teams will be deployed in the coming days to ensure the swift collection of outstanding property taxes.

PMC has 3.5 lakh registered properties across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. To make tax payments easier, the corporation has introduced multiple online options:

What is Deadline?

* March 31 is the last date to pay property tax dues. To facilitate payments, all tax collection offices, including Citizen Facilitation Centers, will remain open on weekends in March.

* Property tax is a key revenue source for ongoing development projects in Panvel. Citizens are urged to clear their dues on time and support municipal development efforts.
