In a major crackdown on traffic violators, the Vashi Traffic Unit has taken action against 7,696 vehicles in March alone. These actions, conducted under various traffic violation categories, have resulted in fines amounting to Rs 68.81 lakh. Of this, Rs 11.82 lakh has already been recovered, officials confirmed.

The drive comes as part of a broader enforcement initiative led by Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police Tirupati Kakade, aiming to instill discipline among motorists across the commissionerate.

Senior Inspector Dilip Gujar of the Vashi Traffic Division stated that, alongside regular fines, 50 cases of drunk driving and 29 instances involving the seizure of modified, excessively loud silencers were also recorded over the past three months. Legal proceedings have been initiated against 324 drivers as part of this intensified enforcement.

Repeat Offenders Under the Scanner

In a stern move, traffic police have proposed the cancellation and blacklisting of driving licenses and vehicles of 17 individuals who failed to comply with court summons. Additionally, proposals to cancel the licenses of 31 repeat offenders have been sent to the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

Parking Woes Continue in Central Vashi

Due to its central location, Vashi often sees visitors parking vehicles haphazardly on roads, causing major traffic disruptions. Officials note that the increasing number of such violations is contributing to traffic congestion in the area.

To combat these challenges, the traffic police have ramped up their on-ground presence and are enforcing rules strictly to bring order to the roads.
