Hangzhou [China], September 30 : Indian boxer Nishant Dev suffered a 5:0 on-point defeat against Japan's Sewonrets Quincy Mensah Okazawa in the men's 71kg quarterfinal at the ongoing 19th Asian Games on Saturday.

The judges ruled in favour of the Japanese boxer in the first two rounds.

The reigning world championship bronze medallist, Nishant fought back valiantly in the final round. However, the overall scores remained in favour of the former world champion Okazawa.

India's boxing contingent had mixed results in their respective events as many pugilists reached the semifinals and assured medals for the country while others failed to progress.

Narender stormed into the semifinals of the +92 kg men's category while Olympic medalist boxer Lovlina Borgohain has advanced to the semifinals of the women's 75 kg boxing, assuring India of its third boxing medal.

Preeti Pawar confirmed her entry to the semifinals of the 54 kg women's boxing event. Reigning World Champion Nikhat on Friday assured India a medal in the 50kg weight category.

Meanwhile, Arundhati Chaudhary (women's 66kg), Deepak Bhoria (men's 51kg), Shiva Thapa (men's 63.5kg) and Sanjeet (men's 92kg) also suffered a round of 16 exit.
