Tokyo, Aug 7 A member of the Tokyo Olympics organising committee has tested positive for COVID-19. The committee said in a statement on Friday that the female staffer has been working from home since July 30 and her last day working on site at any Tokyo 2020 facility was on July 29.

"The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) confirmed this morning that a female employee in her 30s employed at a Tokyo 2020 office in Harumi in Tokyo's Chuo ward tested positive for COVID-19. This is the second recorded case of infection in this organisation," said the organising committee in its statement.

"Tokyo 2020 will continue to work with relevant organisations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and take all necessary measures to maintain a safe and secure working environment for our staff."

Earlier in April, Tokyo 2020 had said that a male employee had tested positive for the pandemic that has forced an unprecedented postponement of the Games itself.

He had been working at the Tokyo 2020 main office in Harumi, Chuo-ku, in east Tokyo. Tokyo 2020 employees had prior to that been asked to work from home after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared a state of emergency in the capital, Osaka and five other prefectures in early April.
