New Delhi [India], October 25 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hailed Sumit Antil for creating a World Record and winning the gold medal at the ongoing Asian Para Games, describing the Indian athlete's performance in javelin event as "extraordinary" and a testament to his indomitable spirit.

Sumit broke the Asian Para Games record, World record and Asian record in the event with a throw of 73.29m. He reached the mark in his third attempt of the day and clinched a gold medal.

"What an incredible achievement! @sumit_javelin has seized the Gold and created a World Record, Para Asian Record and Games Record in the Men's Javelin F64 event at the Asian Para Games. Sumit is a true Champion! His extraordinary performance is a testament to his indomitable spirit and skill. India is celebrating this victory with immense pride," PM Modi posted on X.

PM Modi also congratulated Ankur Dhama for clinching his second gold in the ongoing prestigious event.

Dhama stood tall among his competitors, ensuring that the rest fell by the wayside while he won gold in 1500 m. He finished the race at 4:27:20. Dhama had won gold earlier this week in the men's 5000m T11 final, recording 16:37:29 on Monday.

India holds the sixth position in the medal standings.
