Wearing too many warm clothes can cause excessive heat. This causes a sudden narrowing of the blood vessels - which can lead to hypotension (low blood pressure) in a person with heart disease. If you are out in the cold and you find yourself drenched in sweat, you have to sleep a lot.

Cold weather and low humidity due to indoor heating increases the chances of catching winter flu. The flu is potentially dangerous in anyone with heart disease. Avoid the flu and if you are experiencing flu symptoms, consult your doctor before taking any medicine.

Avoid alcohol before going out. It dilates the blood vessels in the skin, making you feel warm while actually keeping the heat away from your vital organs.

Get involved in physical activities like jogging, brisk walking and yoga. This helps reduce high blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart attack. Heart patients should avoid going out early in the morning and late at night when the temperature is extremely low.
