Mumbai Rains: Railway tracks submerged, traffic stalled, red alert issued

The first rains of the monsoon season this year led to waterlogging in different parts of Mumbai, after which the traffic police closed four subways.

In some places, even the bike riders were forced to leave the vehicle on the road.

The city police has appealed to the people of Mumbai not to leave their homes without any reason and to avoid going to waterlogged areas.

Vehicles were scarce on the city roads during the rains but drivers of motorcycles and other vehicles were unable to move the vehicles ahead at some places with waterlogging.

The Milan, Khar, Andheri and Malad subways for motorcyclists were closed by the traffic police due to waterlogging.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic: Western Suburbs) Somnath Gharge said, 'We closed the subway at these places due to waterlogging of about two feet. However, operation of vehicles on SV Road, Linking Road and Western Express Highway remained smooth. So far there is no jam situation.
