Founder of Thyrocare Dr. A. Velumani reached his office dressed in simple clothes, file in hand and traveling through a crowded local train. Often the pictures of such billionaires and millionaires come to light, but they show a fleet of vehicles, but this picture of Velumani is of people.

People are appreciating its simplicity, even though today they are owners of crores, but they never forget their old reality. There was a time when the entire household earned Rs 50, but despite being successful, Velumani did not forget his past.

Dr Velumai recently tweeted a picture of himself in a Mumbai local train and spoke about both how economical and faster travelling on a local train is.

He said that the car showed 70 mins on an app while the train took just 18 mins by beating the traffic.

Velumani Arokyaswamy was born in 1959 in an ordinary farming family. Velumani's father, who lived in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, did not even have his own land. There came a time when father's health deteriorated so much that he had to stop working with his hands.

Velumani earlier took to Twitter to emphasise the importance of time management and economical travel by encouraging people to opt for local trains in Mumbai rather than expensive car rides. He shared a personal experience to illustrate this point.

To earn extra money, Velumani started tutoring children along with work. He used to send most of his earnings to his mother. Along with the job, he also completed his PhD studies.

He worked in BARC for 14 years. The first testing lab was started in Mumbai by laying the foundation of Thyrocare with the little savings from the job and about one lakh rupees taken from the PF money. Gradually, labs were opened in different parts of the country.

It often happened that he had to sleep in the lab due to increasing workload. The company he started by withdrawing PF money, today that company is worth crores. In 2021, he sold 66 percent stake in the company to the parent company of the pharmacy for Rs 4546 crore.

Despite owning crores, Velumani lives a simple life. Living in a small space above his large laboratory in Navi Mumbai, Velumani leads a simple lifestyle. Looking at him, no one will be able to guess that he is the owner of crores of wealth.
