Pan-Aadhaar Link deadline extended by 6 months till March 2022

The government extended the deadline for linking PAN with biometric ID Aadhaar by six months to March 2022.

In a statement, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that keeping in view the problems being faced by various stakeholders due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the deadline has been extended, which will ease compliance.

'Time limit for intimation of Aadhaar number to the Income Tax Department for linking of PAN with Aadhaar has been extended from 30th September, 2021 to 31st March, 2022,' it said.

Also, the due date for completion of penalty proceedings under the I-T Act has been extended from 30 September, 2021 to 31 March, 2022.

Further, the time limit for issuance of notice and passing of order by the Adjudicating Authority under the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988 has been extended to March 2022.

Linking via SMS: Send an SMS to the numbers 567678 or 56161. The format should be UIDPAN (space) 12-digit Aadhar card number (space) 10-digit PAN card number. You will then receive an SMS updating you about your PAN-Aadhaar linking status. Keep in mind that it will be linked only if the date of birth of the taxpayer is same on both Aadhaar and PAN.
