SIM Swap fraud’: Delhi advocate receives 3 missed calls loses money from account

A city-based advocate from North Delhi has become the latest victim of the phone hacking scam or SIM swap in the national capital after she received three missed calls from unknown numbers and lost money from her bank account.

The Delhi Police’s Cyber Cell said that the lawyer neither answered any phone calls from the accused nor did she share any personal details or OTP, but, the accused managed to extract all her personal information including banking details and stole her money.

This entire matter is related to SIM swapping. Many cases of SIM swapping have come to light before. According to Indian Express, Delhi Police's cyber cell said the lawyer did not answer any of the accused's phone calls.

The woman did not share any personal information or OTP, but the accused managed to extract all her personal information including banking details and stole her money. Lakhs of rupees have disappeared from the woman's account.

The woman called the person from another number, but was told it was a courier delivery call. The officer said, 'The woman had given her home address thinking that she would receive some goods sent by her friend.'

'The woman has not shared any banking details, OTP or password. When she contacted us, we found that the money had been debited several times without her consent.”

During the investigation, it was found that the woman also received phishing links as well as fake UPI registration messages. The woman also said in her complaint that she received a call from a person who identified himself as an IFSO officer and asked for her bank statement.

Fortunately, she didn't share any details with him. A case has been registered in the cyber cell and investigation is underway to identify the accused. Nowadays there has been a huge increase in the incidence of online fraud.
