Rajya Sabha Election UP: PM Modi denied Rajya Sabha ticket to Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

The politics for Rajya Sabha has started. Each party wants to elect its candidate at the state level. The fiercest competition is seen in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena-BJP, once friends, fielded their own candidates for the sixth seat.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cut off one of the ministers from Rajya Sabha.

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi did not get a Rajya Sabha ticket. This could lead to his resignation. He is currently serving a six-month term at the end of his term. Modi has denied ticket to another Muslim MP.

Rajya Sabha MP Zafar Islam was also denied a ticket. The BJP announced two more names for seats in Uttar Pradesh late on Monday night. In this, Mithilesh Kumar and K. Laxman have been nominated.

Mithilesh Kumar was elected to the Lok Sabha from Shahjahanpur. He had contested from SP in 2009. He has also been an independent once and MLA twice from the SP.

K. Laxman is the national president of the BJP's OBC front. Thus, BJP has announced the names of eight candidates from Uttar Pradesh.

The BJP had on Sunday announced the names of six candidates from Uttar Pradesh. Among them was Agarwal, who left his seat for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He had been elected to the Legislative Assembly from Gorakhpur since 2002.

The BJP has a total strength of 273 allies. They can elect all the candidates. The SP has 125 votes. They can elect three MPs. Uttar Pradesh has a total of 31 Rajya Sabha seats. Elections are being held for 11 seats.

The last date for filing nominations for Rajya Sabha is today. Voting ends June 10. The application deadline is June 1 and the withdrawal date is June 3. The counting of votes will take place on June 10.
