New Delhi, Aug 31 Former President Pranab Mukherjee's daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee on Monday said that her father led a full and meaningful life in service of the nation and people.

In a tweet, an emotional Sharmistha said, "I bow to all. Baba, taking the liberty to quote from your favourite poet to say your final goodbye to all. You have led a full, meaningful life in service of the nation, in service of our people. I feel blessed to have been born as your daughter."

She also attached a photograph of the former President. Pranab Mukherjee breathed his last on Monday evening at the Army Referral and Research Hospital, where he has been admitted since August 10. He was 84.

Mukherjee was hospitalised for the past 21 days and was critical following a brain surgery. The veteran Congress leader was admitted to the hospital on August 10 in a critical condition. Mukherjee was President of India from 2012 to 2017. He was conferred the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 2019 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008.
