Bengaluru, Aug 7 Karnataka government is considering to work out a water sharing agreement with Andhra Pradesh to mitigate water scarcity in bordering areas of Chikkaballapur district, said Karnataka Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar on Friday.

As the in-charge Minister for Chikkaballapur, Sudhakar was addressing the water scarcity problem in Gowribidanur sub-division.

"Drinking water is a major problem in Gowribidanur and we are planning to get 10-15 tmc water from Andhra Pradesh," he said.

According to the Minister, the amount of water received from AP for the bordering areas in the district can be repaid with the same amount of water from another part of the state.

"A request has been made to the Chief Minister to include Chikkaballapur in tier-2 cities which will provide many discounts for industries. Our aim is to establish industries in every sub-division of the district," Sudhakar said.

He also said the government is committed to implementing the Yettinhole project. Likewise, tourist places such as Vidurashwatha will be developed as one of the major tourism hubs.

On Friday, the Minister started various developmental works under Nagarothana project worth Rs 7 crore and distributed cheques worth Rs 5,000 each to beneficiaries under the medical assistance scheme.

He also distributed possession certificates to beneficiaries under Ashraya scheme and identity cards to street vendors.
