Panaji, Aug 31 Leader of Opposition and Goa Congress leader Digambar Kamat on Monday expressed deep anguish over the passing away of former President Pranab Mukherjee, saying that Mother India has lost a "worthy son".

"Deeply saddened by the passing away of former President of India Pranab Mukherjee. We have lost a great intellectual, thinker, statesman and a worthy son of Mother India. His distinguished career is a matter of great pride for the country," former Goa Chief Minister Kamat said in a message, while expressing his condolences to Mukherjee's daughter Sharmistha and son Abhijeet.

"Respects to one of the tallest leaders of Indian National Congress Pranab da, who in his political career of almost five decades served to strengthen India," Kamat added.

Mukherjee (84) who was hospitalised for 21 says, succumbed to Covid-19 in the national capital on Monday.
