Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], April 15 : Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Andhra Pradesh president Palla Srinivasa Rao slammed the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP)'s claims of building Amaravati as the state capital for Rs 2 lakh crores, saying that Amaravati is a "self-sustainable model."
Speaking to ANI, Rao accused YSRCP of creating confusion among the investors.
He said, "The YCP leaders are claiming that Amaravati needs Rs 2 lakh crores for construction. Amaravati is a self-sustainable model. Never believe the words of YCP leaders. They are using their social media handles and are constantly changing their stance. They are creating some confusion among the investors, which is not good for the state, and it is not good for the Telugu people."
This comes after YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy slammed the Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP government's decision to make Amaravati the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh, alleging that Naidu is focusing exclusively on the city in the expectation of receiving commissions and indulging in corruption.
Reddy had asked the state government to make Visakhapatnam the Executive Capital, Kurnool as the Judicial Capital and Amaravati as the Legislative Capital.
"On the capital issue, we offered a practical solution: Visakhapatnam as Executive Capital, Kurnool as Judicial Capital, and Amaravati as Legislative Capital. Alternatively, we proposed developing a growth corridor, Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, and Guntur, under the MAVIGUN concept. Instead of spending Rs 2 lakh crore on Amaravati alone, even 10 per cent of that could have created a functional capital and economic engine immediately. But Chandrababu rejected these ideas, focusing only on Amaravati for alleged commissions and corruption," said Reddy.
Amaravati was designated as the sole capital of the state after President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Act, 2026, following the legislation being passed in both Houses of Parliament.
