New Delhi [India], April 2 : Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav on Thursday criticised the government over the CAPF Amendment Bill and expressed full confidence in Mamata Banerjee's victory in West Bengal.
Criticising the government over the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) Amendment Bill, Yadav said, "On the strength of their majority, they (the government) are doing all sorts of wrong things, and the public is suffering the bad consequences. May God help them."
Turning to elections in West Bengal, regarding NIA allegations and central government actions, he stated, "No one can remove the voters, and nothing will happen because of what these people say. Mamata will winmark my words and keep a record of this. She will win with a huge majority; there is a massive difference. No matter how much power Delhi (the Central Government) puts in, they won't be able to harm Mamata."
Yadav's comments come amidst various changes in the central government's policies while expressing unwavering support for Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal.
The Lok Sabha is scheduled to take up the CAPF Bill today, after it was passed in the Upper House of Parliament.
The Bill provides for fifty per cent of posts in the CAPFs to be filled by deputation in the rank of Inspector General, and a minimum of sixty-seven per cent of the posts to be filled by deputation in the rank of Additional Director General, and all posts in the ranks of Special Director General and Director General shall be filled by deputation only.
As Union Minister Amit Shah is expected to be in West Bengal ahead of state elections, MoS Home Nityanand Rai is likely to move the Bill in the House.
On Wednesday, the CAPF Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha amid a walkout staged by the Opposition.
The Opposition MPs had flagged that the Bill goes against the Supreme Court judgment in 2025, which called for "the number of posts earmarked for deputation in the cadres of the CAPFs upto the level of Senior Administrative Grade (SAG) should be progressively reduced over a period of time, say within an outer limit of two years."
