Sonia Gandhi sends 'chadar' to Ajmer Dargah

Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has sent a 'chadar' (religious offering) for the 808th Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti in Ajmer in Rajasthan.

New Delhi, Feb 27 Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has sent a 'chadar' (religious offering) for the 808th Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti in Ajmer in Rajasthan.

As part of the annual ritual, the Congress offers a 'chadar' as a tribute to the saint revered across religions.

During the programme, senior Congress leaders Tariq Anwar, Shakiluzzaman Ansari and Minority Department Chairman Nadeem Javed were present.

Congress leader Nadeem Javed said that "we will pray to the great saint for peace, harmony and wellbeing of our country and brotherhood."

Ansari said that "we hope that peace prevails in Delhi which is witnessing the worst violence in decades where many people have died."

The Urs falls on Rajab 6 as per the Hijri calendar, corresponding to March 1 of the Gregorian calendar.
