Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], April 1 : Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday paid tribute to retired Brigadier Mukesh Joshi in Dehradun following his demise.

The Brigadier lost his life after being hit by a bullet during a firing incident between two groups in Johri village, the day before yesterday morning, while he was out for a walk.

During the visit, the Chief Minister met the bereaved family and expressed his condolences. He prayed to God to grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the grieving family to endure this immense loss.

The Chief Minister stated that strict action will be taken against those responsible for this unfortunate incident. He emphasised that the safety of the general public remains the government's top priority.

CM Dhami further said that officials have been directed to carry out "Operation Prahar" across the state to take stringent action against anti-social and unruly elements.

He asserted that there is no place for such elements in the state, and anyone attempting to disturb law and order will not be spared under any circumstances.

On Wednesday, retired Army Brigadier VK Joshi was shot dead during his morning walk in the Rajpur Police Station area of Dehradun on Monday, officials said.

The incident took place near Tula Apartments in Johri village, where the victim died on the spot after being fired upon by an unidentified assailant.

The Director General of Police (DGP), Uttarakhand, Deepam Seth, chaired a high-level meeting at the Police Headquarters on Tuesday in view of the sensitivity of recent criminal incidents in Dehradun.

The meeting was attended by Inspector General of Police (IG) Garhwal Rajiv Swaroop, IG Special Task Force (STF) Nilesh Anand Bharne, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun Pramendra Dobhal, SSP STF Ajay Singh, and other officials.

The DGP further directed that Circle Officers and Station House Officers should remain actively present in the field, increase police visibility in identified hotspot areas, and ensure strict checking at barriers. Special emphasis was placed on enhancing police presence and alertness during early morning hours.

The DGP also instructed the IG STF and SSP STF to launch a special operation against active criminal elements in Dehradun and take stringent action.
