Wide support to 'janata curfew' initiative in Taj city

Social and health activists, NGO functionaries and the members of dozens of frontal organisations of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have pledged full support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Janata curfew" on Sunday.

Agra, March 20 Social and health activists, NGO functionaries and the members of dozens of frontal organisations of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have pledged full support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Janata curfew" on Sunday.

To mobilise support and sensitise people, the social media has been flooded with support messages and a resolve to fight the scourge of COVID-19.

Local BJP Legislator Purushottam Khandelwal said he would be personally phoning people to support Janata curfew which was the Modi Mantra to fight COVID-19 spread.

Meanwhile, all government offices in the division have responded to the health alert by the Yogi government. Mass cleanliness drive, headed by senior officials, have been launched. The Bank ATMs are being sanitised and personal contacts minimised. Railway stations and bus stands have been cleaned up and the sewage system is being streamlined on a war footing.

Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials confirmed on Friday that there would be no Friday Namaaz in the Taj Mahal.

With schools and colleges closed, there was reduced traffic pressure on the Agra roads early Friday.

Of the eight confirmed coronavirus cases, seven have returned home healthy, after treatment at Delhi's Safdarjang hospital. The eighth case, a woman who had fled from Bengaluru to her parents house in the railway colony, is under treatment, at the local medical college.

The district health officials said over a thousand people were under watch and had been asked to stay confined to their homes, as they had come into contact with suspected foreigners.
