"Won't be a nuisance, but...": DMK chief MK Stalin warns TVK govt against lies and slander

New Delhi [India], May 18 : Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President MK Stalin on Monday said the party would extend cooperation to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led Tamil Nadu government but warned that it would firmly respond to any "slanderous attacks" or misinformation.

In a post on X, Stalin urged party cadres to actively expose alleged falsehoods spread by the ruling party while assuring that the DMK will not create "nuisance" in state governance.

"A new government has been formed. We won't be a nuisance while they govern. Let them govern! But if they launch slanderous attacks on us to cover up their inadequacies, we will provide clarifications. If they spread lies on social media, we will expose the truthI'm requesting this of my comrades," he wrote.

Stalin made the remarks while also referring to recent party activities, including attending a wedding ceremony of a party functionary in Thanjavur. He said he had interacted with party cadres and would be travelling out of Tiruchirappalli later in the day.

"I attended the wedding ceremony of my dear brother Poondi Kalaivanan at Thanjavur Dharani and congratulated the bride and groom. This is a family celebration of the party, where Poondi Krishnasamy and Poondi Kalaiselvan dedicated their lives to the party!" he wrote.

"After a short interval, I'm heading out of town. From the moment I landed in Trichy yesterday, I understood the emotions expressed by DMK comrades and the people upon seeing me. I know you. You know me. We don't need words between us," he added.

Earlier on Saturday, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin said he had constituted a 38-member committee to conduct a constituency-wise ground-level assessment after the party's defeat in the Legislative Assembly election.'

In a post on X, Stalin said the committee members were being sent across all 234 constituencies as representatives of the party headquarters to understand the sentiments of grassroots workers and functionaries.

"Regarding the Legislative Assembly election results, I had appointed a 38-member committee to conduct a ground-level study across all 234 constituencies. Today, during my meeting with them, I gave several important instructions on how this study should be carried out," Stalin said.

The DMK chief instructed the committee members to listen to party workers without bias and accurately report their views, even if criticism was directed at the party leadership.

Stalin said the reports must be submitted by June 5 and that corrective measures and reforms within the party would be implemented by the end of June.

The DMK was unable to defend its power in the 2026 elections, after it was restricted to 59 seats. Amid anti-incumbency, debutant Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), riding on Vijay's mass popularity, won 108 seats and formed the government with the support of Congress (five seats), CPI, CPI(M), VCK and IUML.

Former CM MK Stalin lost his Kolathur seat to TVK's VS Babu by 8,795 votes. In another setback to the DMK, its INDIA bloc and the Secular Progressive Alliance partner Congress joined the TVK camp.
