After the turmoil surrounding the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections 2026, a major political development unfolded in the city on Friday. Soon after the final results were declared, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar reached at the resident of NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar in Govind Baug, in Baramati, to meet him. NCP-SP MPs, including Amol Kolhe and Supriya Sule were also present at Govindbagh which has further fuelled political speculation in the state.
Meanwhile, BJP has registered a landslide victory in the PMC elections, winning 120 seats. The alliance between Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar had come together to contest under the NCP banner. This meeting marks the first interaction between the two leaders after the municipal corporation results. As Ajit Pawar reached Govindbagh, a large number of party workers gathered in Baramati and across parts of Pune, adding to the buzz around the meeting.
Sources suggest that discussions during the meeting may focus on the future course of action for the two NCP factions, including the possibility of working together as an opposition force in the municipal corporation. There is also renewed talk of the two groups coming closer politically. With Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections approaching in the state, leaders believe that unity may be necessary to take on the BJP and safeguard their political relevance.
