Fake Water Bill Scam in Pune: Citizens Receive Fraudulent Texts, PMC Warns Against Clicking Suspicious Links

Pune, Maharashtra (April 17, 2025):  The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a warning to citizens regarding fraudulent messages claiming that their water connections will be disconnected if pending bills are not paid. The civic body clarified that such messages are not being sent by the PMC and urged residents not to fall for these scams.

In the last two to three days, several citizens have reported receiving text messages stating that their water connections will be cut off due to unpaid bills. Complaints regarding these messages have been received by the PMC’s water supply department.

Nandkishor Jagtap, head of the PMC’s water supply department, confirmed that no such messages are being sent by the corporation. He appealed to the public to avoid engaging with such messages and to not trust unknown mobile numbers or individuals demanding online payments.

Jagtap also advised citizens not to click on any suspicious links provided in these messages. For accurate information, PMC has made the water bill details and online payment facility available through its WhatsApp number 8888251001 and the official website http://watertax.punecorporation.org.

For any further assistance, citizens can contact the PMC call centre at 1800103222 or reach out to their respective meter readers, Jagtap added.
