A shocking incident has come to light involving Sunny Nana Waghchaure, popularly known as the “Golden Man,” who has allegedly received death threats from the Bishnoi gang demanding an extortion amount of ₹5 crore. Waghchaure claimed that a gang member, identified as Shubham Lonkar, directly threatened him, warning that he would be killed like Baba Siddiqui if the money was not paid. Following this, Waghchaure lodged a written complaint with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, stating that his life is in grave danger and seeking immediate action and police protection. Known for wearing 2–3 kilograms of gold jewellery at public events, he recently joined the Nationalist Congress Party and has around 2.5 crore followers on social media.
According to the complaint, the sequence of events began on January 25 when Waghchaure received a missed WhatsApp call from an international number, followed by a message asking him to return the call. When he finally answered, the caller introduced himself as Shubham Lonkar from the Bishnoi gang and ended the call, saying further communication would be via messages. Initially dismissing it as a prank, Waghchaure later received repeated calls from different numbers, making him increasingly concerned for his safety.
On January 26 morning, a threatening message demanded ₹5 crore within five days, warning that failure to comply would lead to his murder. The message specifically stated that his fate would be like Baba Siddiqui’s if he did not pay, and even mocked his habit of wearing gold by threatening him with bullets instead. The incident has caused widespread panic in the city, prompting police to register a case and begin investigating to trace and apprehend the individuals responsible for issuing the threats.
