LPG Gas Cylinders Shortage in Pune: A shortage of commercial LPG cylinders has forced a girls’ hostel mess in Pune to cook meals on an earthen stove for hundreds of students. Pune attracts thousands of students and young professionals from across Maharashtra and other parts of India every year for education, jobs and business. To support them, many hostels and mess facilities operate in different parts of the city. However, a recent disruption in the supply of commercial LPG cylinders has created problems for some mess operators.
At a girls’ hostel mess near Jungli Maharaj Road, staff members had to switch to an earthen stove after their supply of commercial gas ran out. The mess prepares meals for more than 200 students every day. Mess operators said the sudden shortage of gas has disturbed their normal cooking arrangements. Cooking large quantities of food on an earthen stove is difficult and takes more time.
Staff members are also dealing with smoke and other challenges while cooking on the earthen stove, which has slowed the overall cooking process. Despite these challenges, the mess management said they are continuing their service so that students can get their meals on time.
Mess operators have urged authorities and gas suppliers to restore the supply of commercial cylinders at the earliest so that normal cooking operations can resume.
