Illegal power theft has once again resumed in broad daylight at Shriram Chowk, located just a short distance from the Bhosari-2 subdivision office of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) in Pimpri city. The DP (distribution panel) box was locked. However, citizens are now questioning whether that action was merely superficial and are raising concerns about possible “vested interests” within the electricity department.
At Shriram Chowk, some stall owners and shopkeepers have dangerously and illegally drawn electricity connections from roadside DP boxes. This poses a serious risk, as anyone who unknowingly comes close to these open boxes could suffer an electric shock, potentially leading to accidents. On the road leading from this chowk towards Gathli Matha, around seven to eight DP boxes have been found with their doors left open. Notably, the MSEDCL subdivision office is located on the same road.
Apart from this, similar instances have been observed under the flyover in Pimpri, particularly in the vegetable market area, where DP box doors are left open and power is being stolen in a hazardous manner. When questioned, the electricity department officials stated that action would be taken.
Meanwhile, Atul Devkar, Executive Engineer of the Bhosari MSEDCL office, said that strict action will once again be taken against those involved in power theft if such activities continue to occur at the same spots.
