Pune, Maharashtra (June 11, 2025): A woman died on the spot and a man was seriously injured after a speeding truck rammed into their two-wheeler at Gangadham Chowk in the Market Yard area on Wednesday around 11.15 a.m. According to police, the deceased has been identified as Deepali Soni, 29. The injured rider has been identified as Jagdish Pannalal Soni, 61, who was rushed to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. A chilling video of the incident has surfaced online.

Police said the incident occurred on the busy Gangadham road when the two were riding on a two-wheeler. As they crossed the signal at Gangadham Chowk, a truck hit them from behind and dragged the vehicle forward. The truck ran over Deepali, killing her on the spot. Jagdish suffered serious injuries in the accident.
The Market Yard police have detained the truck driver, identified as Shaukat Ali Papalal Kulkundi, 51, a resident of Bhavani Peth. A medical test is being conducted on him, police said.
Accidents are frequent at Gangadham Chowk, locals say. Every time a mishap occurs, temporary restrictions are placed on heavy vehicles. The Bibwewadi-Kondhwa Road that leads to Gangadham Chowk lacks basic infrastructure. The Pune Municipal Corporation has announced a plan to modify the slope between the ‘Aai Mata Mandir’ and Gangadham Chowk.
As part of the plan, the road gradient will be reduced and speed bumps and rumble strips will be installed. Residents also said encroachments must be removed to widen the road. Locals Atul Jain and Amol Pardeshi have demanded a permanent ban on heavy vehicles during the daytime on this stretch.
