Pune: 3 Arrested for Extorting Money Over Scrap Collection in Chakan Near Pimpri-Chinchwad

A fraud case has come to light where a group of five to six individuals allegedly demanded ransom from a company insisting that they wanted to collect scrap from a site, they would have to pay money in advance. The incident took place in Chakan on Thursday (April 3) at around 5:30 PM. Police have since arrested three suspects in connection with the case. Ramdas Baban Gadekar (50), a resident of Bhose in Khed taluka, lodged a complaint at the Chakan Police Station on Friday (April 4).

The arrested suspects have been identified as Prajwal Kailas Mohite (27, resident of Mohitewadi, Chakan), Sanket alias Monty Nanekar (27, resident of Nanekarwadi, Chakan), and Usiullah Rubab Khan (38, resident of Kudalwadi, Chikhali). A case has also been registered against two to three unidentified accomplices. According to police reports, Sunil Shivram Rathod from the complainant’s company had gone to Victoria Company to collect scrap material. There, he and Gaurav Parasmal Gadeya, the company's manager, were confronted by Mohite, Nanekar, and several others. The suspects claimed they had the contract for transporting the scrap and began abusing and threatening the company representatives, warning them not to proceed with collecting the material.

Later, on Thursday at around 5:30 PM, Ramdas Gadekar himself was on his way to Victoria Company from Lakshmi Vajan Kata to collect a bill when Usiullah Khan blocked his truck with a two-wheeler. He reportedly told Gadekar that anyone wanting to take
