Pune Accident News: An 11-year-old girl was killed after a gas cylinder transport tempo rolled backward when its driver allegedly failed to apply the handbrake in Maharashtra’s Pimpri area. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026, near Somatane Phata. The victim was identified as Dnyaneshwari Munde, 11.
According to the reports, the tempo carrying gas cylinders was parked on a slope in the Somatane Phata area. However, the driver did not properly engage the handbrake, causing the vehicle to suddenly roll backward after a short while.
At the time, the girl was playing by the roadside with other children in the area. Before she could react, she came under the wheels of the moving tempo and was critically injured. Local residents rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Following the incident, a large number of residents gathered at the scene, expressing anger over the alleged negligence. Locals have demanded strict action against the driver.
Police officials said they reached the spot promptly and brought the situation under control. An investigation is underway, and the process of registering a case against the driver has begun, Senior Police Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat said.
