Pune: A tragic accident reported near Khed Shivapur toll plaza where a couple riding two wheeler died on the spot after colliding with two wheeler on Pune-Bengaluru-National highway. According to report, gas tanker violently collided with their two-wheeler leaving traffic disrupted.

The deceased identified as Rajendra Baban More and Savita Rajendra More residents of Warje Malwadi, Pune—were traveling towards Satara on their two-wheeler. As they reached the Satara-bound lane just past the Khed Shivapur toll plaza, a gas tanker slammed into their vehicle. The impact was so severe that both individuals were dragged underneath the tanker and succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

According to eyewitnesses, both the tanker and the two-wheeler were traveling at high speeds. Preliminary assessments suggest that the accident occurred because the tanker driver lost control of the vehicle. Following the collision, the two-wheeler was flung a considerable distance to the side of the road.

Immediately after the incident, local citizens rushed to offer assistance and alerted the police. However, it soon became evident that the couple had died on the spot due to the severity of their injuries. A large crowd gathered in the area following the accident. Reports emerged that irate citizens had vandalized the gas tanker, creating a tense atmosphere in the vicinity for a brief period.

The police immediately rushed to the scene to bring the situation under control. Traffic flow was restored, and an official accident report (panchnama) was recorded. The bodies have been sent to a hospital for a post-mortem examination. The police have taken the tanker driver, Raj Kishan B. (a resident of Tirupuram), into custody, and further investigations into the incident are underway.
