Pune, Maharashtra (April 17, 2025): A major accident was averted on the Pune-Satara highway on Thursday afternoon after a private Volvo bus coming from Kolhapur to Pune caught fire near the Khed Shivapur. Quick action by the driver helped save all passengers on board. According to preliminary information, the incident took place around midday. The bus was travelling at high speed when smoke began to emerge from the engine area as it neared the Khed Shivapur. Within moments, the vehicle caught fire. In a video shared by news agency IANS, smoke and flames can be seen engulfing the entire bus as panicked passengers move to safety.
The driver stopped the bus immediately and guided all passengers to safety. No injuries were reported as passengers managed to exit the bus in time. However, the bus was completely gutted in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. After receiving information about the incident, the fire brigade reached the spot and brought the blaze under control. The incident led to brief traffic disruption on the highway.
Local police and the bus company have launched an investigation. The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety standards followed by private bus operators.
