Pune: A 54-year-old woman was robbed of gold jewellery worth Rs 6.90 lakh while travelling on a PMP bus, in what appears to be a well-planned distraction theft. A case has been registered against an unidentified woman at the Wanwadi Police have registered. Victim is a resident of Umarga in Dharashiv district, was travelling from Hadapsar Gadital to Chinchwad around 10 AM on March 30.
According to reports, incident took place on Pune-Solapur Road near Vaiduwadi. Police said the accused created a diversion by pretending to vomit and intentionally bumping into the victim. Amid the confusion, the jewellery kept in the woman’s bag was stolen.
In another similar incident in Bhavani Peth, an elderly woman was targeted while travelling on a PMP bus. A case has been registered at the Khadak Police Station. The accused reportedly engaged the victim in conversation and deftly removed a gold chain worth ₹28,000 from her neck without her noticing. Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Waghere is investigating the matter.

Authorities have urged commuters to remain cautious, as such distraction-based thefts appear to be on the rise in public transport.
