Pune Car Accident: Two Killed, Two Injured While Avoiding Potholes on Kalyan–Ahilyanagar Highway Near Otur

Pune: A tragic accident occurred around 3 AM on Tuesday, January 27th, near Kolmatha-Nandlal Lawns in Otur on the Kalyan-Ahilyanagar state highway leaving two injured, two dead.  The incident has caused grief in the area, and anger is being expressed over the poor condition of the road. Deceased have been identified as Varad Amol Tambe, a resident of Otur, Junnar taluka, Pune and Karan Pavle a resident of Pirangut, Pune.

According to the information received, four young men were traveling towards Kalyan in a car. While trying to avoid large potholes on the road near Kolmatha in Otur, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car first crashed violently into a wood apple tree on the side of the road. It then hit a barrier further ahead and overturned. The accident was so severe that the car was extensively damaged. All four young men in the vehicle were seriously injured. Upon receiving information about the incident, local citizens and the Otur police immediately started rescue operations and shifted the injured to the hospital.

Following an accident near Otur, Varad Tambe and Karan Pavle were declared dead at the Otur Primary Health Center after a preliminary examination. Two others were admitted to private hospitals in Otur and Alephata. The accident has cast a pall of gloom over Otur, with the deceased's families grieving. Local citizens and drivers cite the poor road conditions, particularly numerous potholes in the Kolmatha-Nandlal Lawns area, as a contributing factor, noting previous accidents there.

Hemant P. Dumbre, the taluka president of the Human Rights Association, has warned that if the concerned construction department does not take immediate action to repair the road, a strong agitation will be launched. Citizens have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the administration's inaction in the wake of frequent accidents.
