After the recent rape case that was reported at the Swargate ST Bus stand where the accused Dattatray Ramdas Gade raped a 26-year-old woman inside a parked bus, has raised the issue of women safety in the city. With each rising day the complaints about rape and molestation are increasing. In January and February 2025, 125 incidents of molestation and 56 rape cases have been registered in Pune.
As per the information shared by police officials, the accused in all these cases are either acquaintances or relatives of the victim.
Last year, a rape case was reported from Bhopdev Ghat. A college girl who was out on a walk with a friend was gang-raped. The case was reported a few hours after the incident, and the accused had fled the spot. There were no CCTVs near the ghat, yet police arrested the accused within 10 days. However, one of them is still absconding.
Many students from different cities come to Pune for studies. Now, as the crime against women is increasing here, people are questioning the safety and security of the city.
