Pune: A shocking case, the Baramati Additional session court sentenced a man for 10-years and a fine of Rs 20,000 for sexually assaulting sister-in-law.  Citing the Supreme Court's verdict that the accused can be convicted only on the basis of the credible testimony of the victim, Additional Sessions Judge B. D. Shelke gave the verdict. The victim's testimony against the accused was credible and solid, and was corroborated by the testimony of her husband and medical officers and the forensic examination report.

Considering the crime's nature and seriousness, and the fact that the accused targeted a helpless woman, the court deemed punishment fair. It also directed the District Legal Services Authority to compensate the victim for rehabilitation. The case stems from a complaint filed at the Baramati city police station, leading to a rape charge under the Indian Penal Code. The incident occurred on June 14, 2024, around 3:30 pm at the victim's Pragati Nagar home in Baramati.

The victim's husband worked as a security guard, while the accused was a laborer. On the day of the assault, the accused arrived at the victim's home at 1:30 pm, while her husband was at work. The victim offered him tea. Around 3:30 pm, as she went to prepare more tea, the accused sexually assaulted her and threatened her life if she reported the incident. The victim, in fear, fled to her husband's workplace.
